Friday, August 9,

We went north for about 4 hours on the super highway. We landed at Madi A Thacha. The bus had to drive down a one lane dirt road with branches scraping the sides and top of the bus. At the end of the road was a beautiful 'farm' setting. We were at the base of mountains in the midst of gorgeous buildings. Very country and sophisticated. Don't know how nancy finds these places. We were served a delicious lunch complete with wine and a cheesecake type dessert in a martini glass. The owner had brought in several area artists that we would now have been able to reach on our bus. I bought 4 pieces of jewelry make if lead wood and red ivory. I also bought a necklace made of locally made beads.

The hotel here was a bit of a shocker after what we have been in so far. We are in a rather small town and are completely occupying the best spot in town. The driver and guide had to go to another hotel. The wifi works, but is sketchy. All of the hotel staff wherever we have been wonderful.

Friday was also national Women's Day. The president gave a speech. South Africa is trying hard to increase the rights of women and decrease the violence against them. A bit of a problem is the fact that the current president has 4 wives. He is not looking for a fifth because he has been getting a lot of flack since his election.

No pictures today because my camera battery went dead early in the day. I then took pictures with the iPhone. The wifi doesn't want to transfer photos to the iPad.
