Monday, August 5, the cradle of mankind

We went out of town today to visit the dig site called the cradle of mankind. On the way, we went through a game reserve. What a surprise. First it was wildebeest.

Then the springbok. They really do spring. When they run, they bounce. Looks fun!

This is our warthog friend. Not sure what he was digging for.

A bit farther on we found this sable antelope. He was a beauty. I learned today the difference between deer and antelope. Deer get new horns every year (I knew that). Antelope only get one set and it has to last a lifetime.

As if that wasn't enough, we then came upon these rhinos basking in the sun.

This dude is a kudo antelope. How about those horns.

Finally we got to got to the dig site

This 26 year old phd student gave a great lecture about the work they are doing. Our oldest ancestors are buried here.

This is the long drop. Enough said
