Wed, August 14, Limpopo

Before writing about the above towns,I have to go back to the game farm. On our last night drive after seeing the leopard on his wart hog kill we had started back to the hotel. It was already 7 pm and very dark. After a message from another ranger, our ranger slammed on the brakes and turned around and we sped back to the area of the kill. While looking for the leopard again with a spot light they saw a pangolin which is a rare beast somewhat similar to an armadillo. Our ranger was so excited we went really fast.

This is the pangolin. The big end has the head. He comes out at night and primarily eats termites. The scales are very hard and sharp. If you try to pick it up it will vibrate the plates on its body and chop up your hands.

In the Magoebaskloof mountains we drove up to visit Barok, Merele Paynes textile adventure specializing in unique hand-crafted handbags, skirts, cushion covers, wall panels and other stuff. The climb was so steep and the road so poor we had to transfer to vans to get up. The view was spectacular as we drove through a tea plantation on the way to the top. Below are two
of the purses made in this workshop

The view from this workshop

We were served lunch on the patio of the studio. Delicious. Babootie, salad and many more items

My roommate karen bought this bag

Once down the mountain we went to visit this tree. It is a 1000 years old and is a baboa (or close to this. Must look it up)

Inside the base of the tree is a bar. Behind is Bernard who is part of our group traveling with his wife. They live in Western Australia.

At our hotel, the Fairview Hotel in Tzaneen, this is the view if you lay down on the bed. It is the underside of our thatched roof. Karen and I had two bedrooms and a kitchen as our room
